Han Lue continues to be one of the most compelling characters from the Fast & Furious franchise, especially considering he's been involved in the films for a decade and a half. Technically, Sung Kang originated the role of Han in Justin Lin's 2002 film, Better Luck Tomorrow. Rather than create a new character, Kang reprised his role when he reunited with Lin for The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Han appeared in three subsequent sequels with another on the way, but how old is the character during his appearances?
Han, who is also known under the alias of Han Seoul-Oh, was introduced in Tokyo Drift as a garage owner connected to the city's street racing scene. When Sean Boswell got involved with a drifting community, Han took him under his wing, serving as a mentor. He got into some trouble due to his ties with the Yakuza, and he was seemingly killed as a result of an explosive car accident. Despite his presumed death, Kang reprised his role as Han for multiple sequels as a loyal member of Dominic Toretto's crew - all of which were prequels. As an ally, Han took part in worldwide missions that focused on taking down corrupt businessmen, crime lords, and dangerous mercenaries.
Unlike other members of the Fast & Furious franchise, Han's birthdate was never specified. That said, it's possible to calculate his intended age based on details from Han's arc in Better Luck Tomorrow. Kang's character was meant to be a high school senior when the movie debuted in the early 2000s, insinuating he was around the age of 18. In this case, he would have been born in the mid-'80s. Tokyo Drift was originally meant to take place in 2006, the year the film debuted. Following Han's "death," events of the franchise were retconned to allow the character to return for sequels. Following the changes, the sequel was said to take place in 2014, putting Han in the 30-year-old age range, which was closer to Kang's age of 34 when Tokyo Drift premiered.
Based on the Fast & Furious timeline, Han's earliest appearance was the Los Bandoleros short film that led to the events of Fast & Furious. The movie took place the year that it premiered, occurring five years before the events of Tokyo Drift. Before the coronavirus delays, F9 was scheduled to release in 2020 before shifting to May 2021. It's unclear if the new installment is meant to be set in 2020 or if it includes some kind of time jump. Either way, when Han makes his long-awaited return to the Fast & Furious franchise, the character will presumably be in his mid-thirties. Kang, on the other hand, will be 49-years-old when the next movie finally hits theaters.
