Avengers: Endgame‘s runtime is one of the MCU’s longest and now the film’s writers have something to say about it.
Avengers: Endgame is currently shattering records at the box office, exceeding its expectations and audiences have had no trouble with the film’s runtime. When it was revealed that Avengers: Endgame would be about three hours long, audiences wondered how they would handle it if they had to go to the bathroom or if there would be an intermission in between. According to its box office reports, there appears to be no problems. In an interview with The New York Times, Avengers Endgame co-writer Christopher Markus addressed the film’s screen time stating that the film runtime was always going to remain around that range:
“There was an agreement within the whole group that we’re going to take our time; we’re not going to cut a half-hour of it so we can get one more screening in per day.”
Co-writer Stephen McFeely added:
“We couldn’t! Where are you going to cut a half-hour? There was not a sequence you could cut.”
Christopher Markus went on to justify the 3-hour runtime saying:
“Look at some of the most popular movies of all time. They’re long as hell. When people want to see something, it doesn’t seem to get in their way. There’s some short, totally unsuccessful movies, too.”
Avengers: Endgame may be MCU’s longest film to date, but the runtime helped the film be the success it is. There was a lot of stories to tell in Avengers: Endgame to bring the Avengers’ story full circle in their last stand against Thanos. Avengers: Endgame wrapped up well and the action sequences have exceeded expectations. Some theaters are still sold out for Avengers: Endgame showings, but some fans are still making time for the late showings some theaters are holding.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain. Here’s the film’s synopsis:
“This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.”
