A sequel to the family-comedy film Yes Day is in the works at Netflix. Yes Day stars Jennifer Garner and Ã‰dgar Ramírez as Allison and Carlos Torres, a couple who, after always feeling like they say 'no' to their three children, decide to give their kids a 'Yes Day,' during which the kids are allowed to make the rules for 24 hours. The comedy film is based on the best-selling children’s novel by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. While the film was not necessarily well-received by critics, it was a hit among audiences upon its release on Netflix on March 12, 2021, and was said to have been watched by 62 million households as of April 2021.

Now Netflix (per ComingSoon) has announced that a sequel to Yes Day is currently in development, with Garner set to reprise her role as Allison. The Yes Day sequel is part of the multi-picture deal that Garner recently signed with Netflix to star in and produce new movies for the streamer. Read Garner's statement below:

Having known Scott for fifteen years, there is a reason his relationships in the business stand the test of time. He is as true blue as he is smart and intuitive about filmmaking. Reed, Ted, and Scott have built a safe, collaborative home for storytellers— I am honored to join the awesome group of creatives in the Netflix family, and I am extremely excited to work with their passionate and innovative teams across all departments.  I had the most gratifying, creative, experience bringing Yes Day to life. Seeing Netflix’s global reach as the Torres family wreaked havoc in homes all over the world makes me eager to dive in with another Day of Yes; I can’t wait. I am grateful for Netflix’s continued support and look forward to mixing it up across the board with this partnership.

Scott Stuber, Netflix’s Head of Global Film, also said in a statement:

I first worked with Jen on The Kingdom 14 years ago and consider myself very lucky to still be in business with her today. As an actor, she’s proven herself to be incredibly versatile in unforgettable roles spanning fast-paced action, heartfelt comedies, and thought-provoking dramas. She approaches every aspect of her work with such detail and preparation, which makes her an extremely valuable partner and producer. We look forward to celebrating another Yes Day with Jen and collaborating on many other exciting projects.

Yes Day was directed by Miguel Arteta, with the screenplay written by Justin Malen. Along with Garner and Ramírez, the popular comedy film also starred Jenna Ortega, Julian Lerner, Megan Stott, June Diane Raphael and Nat Faxon. The film was notable for its fun musical climax that featured a cameo from singer H.E.R., who also performed several songs for the film's soundtrack.

While there is not yet any information on the film's premise and release date, or whether Ramírez and the rest of the cast will return for the sequel, it's clear that Netflix felt that there is more of the Torres family story left to tell. It's possible that the next film could center around another "Yes Day" that the parents give their kids, or it might even be a whole new premise. Fans will likely find out more information about the Yes Day sequel once it goes into production.
