Batgirl Andrea Berloff The Kitchen

Batgirl Andrea Berloff The KitchenThe Kitchen director Andrea Berloff shared in a recent interview that she would be interested in helming a Batgirl film.

A Batgirl project was first announced and going to be written and directed by The Avengers‘ Joss Whedon. The Avengers director later departed from the film, but the project isn’t dead. There hasn’t been news on it for a while, but the latest is that Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson was developing a script. There are currently no directors attached, but The Kitchen‘s Andrea Berloff told LRM that it would be the most interesting DC project to her:

“Oh my goodness. There are so many. There are so many. You would think I would have thought that through, because what an obvious question: Why don’t I just go to them? Yeah, I have not thought it through. I would say…is it a real thing? I think it’s a real thing. I think they’re working on it. I would say maybe Batgirl. I think that’s up for grabs. I would say Batgirl.”

The Kitchen is Andrea Berloff’s first directing gig, but her writing credits include films such as Straight Outta Compton and World Trade Center.

Who would you like to see direct a Batgirl film? Do you think Andrea Berloff would be a good choice? Are you excited for The Kitchen? Comment below!

Here is the official synopsis for DC Vertigo’s The Kitchen:

Based on the Vertigo comic book series from DC Entertainment, the film stars Oscar nominee Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish and Elisabeth Moss as three 1978 Hell’s Kitchen housewives whose mobster husbands are sent to prison by the FBI.  Left with little but a sharp ax to grind, the ladies take the Irish mafia’s matters into their own hands—proving unexpectedly adept at everything from running the rackets to taking out the competition…literally.

Written and directed by Andrea Berloff, The Kitchen also stars Common, Domhnall Gleeson, Margo Martindale, Bill Camp, Alicia Coppola, Brian d’Arcy James, James Badge Dale, Jeremy Bobb, and James Ciccone.

The Kitchen opens in theaters on September 20, 2019.
